For the past two decades, William Fox-Pitt has been at the forefront of British equestrian. He was the first Brit to reach the top of the world rankings, and his impressive medal collection includes; Olympic team silver at both the 2004 Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics, and team gold and individual silver at the World Equestrian Games at Kentucky, in 2010. When William won his 50th international three-day event in September 2012, with a victory at the Fidelity Blenheim Palace Horse Trials, his position as an all-time great was sealed.

Early Sporting Career

William Fox-Pitt was born into an equestrian family and began riding at the age of 4. He started eventing at 15 and, during his teens, represented the Junior British team.

In the late 1980s, he won two team gold medals at the Junior Europeans and one individual silver.

When William turned 20, he was competing at Badminton and, in 1994, won his maiden victory at the Burghley Horse Trials. More wins at the British Open Championships and Bramham Horse Trials followed–successes that earned him his place in the 1996 Olympic team in Atlanta.

Other Work

William’s passion for horses goes far beyond sport. In 2005, both he and his wife, Channel 4 racing presenter Alice Plunkett, opened a stables. Remarkably, three of their horses qualified for Team GB at the 2012 Olympics. William is also a Board Director for the Event Riders Association and a Vice President for the Dorset County RDA.

William Fox-Pitt has authored two books: Schooling for Success and his autobiography What Will Be.

In 2011, he further cemented his place as one of Britain’s most extraordinary sportsmen by becoming the first rider to win five different 4-star events: the Burghley Horse Trials (six times), Badminton, the Rolex Kentucky, Luhmühlen Horse Trials, and the Stars of Pau.
