John was ranked as the world’s No. 1 tennis player for four consecutive years from 1981 until 1984. During his 16-year professional career, he captured 77 singles titles, including four U.S. Open championships and three Wimbledon titles. His expertise can now be heard on the BBC’s coverage of tennis.

Joining the tennis circuit in 1978 it took him only three years to attain the No. 1 ranking.He reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon as an 18 year old amateur preparing to go to college.

By 1981, he had taken the first of his three Wimbledon singles titles, becoming the youngest No1 ranked man in history of professional tennis.

In doubles, John McEnroe is recognised as the best player of all time. He was ranked No.1 for a record 257 weeks and captured a total of 74 titles, including eight Grand Slams. John still competes in the Champions Tour, tournaments and special events in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

John’s other interests and strengths are perhaps less well known.

He is actively involved in the John McEnroe Foundation, an organization he established to distribute grants and pledges to a wide variety of charitable organizations.

Also an accomplished guitarist he led The Johnny Smyth Band in a series of concerts throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

He is popular for his insightful commentary and style in the broadcast booth for which he has been nominated several times for a Sports Emmy.

In addition his 2001 memoir, You Cannot Be Serious, was No.1 on The New York Times Bestseller List, as well as a No.1 bestseller in the UK.
