About

Jeremy is a former British number 1 tennis player, respected coach, and talented broadcaster.

He turned professional in 1982 and soon became a national hero. He was the British champion six times, and played in 20 Davis Cup ties for Britain. His career-high rankings were World No. 54 in singles (in 1995) and No. 25 in doubles (in 1991).

During his decorated career, Jeremy Bates won two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles, a singles title at Seoul in 1994 when he was aged 31, and three men’s doubles titles at Tel Aviv (1989), Queen’s Club (1990), and Rotterdam (1994). As the British number 1 he was well supported by the fans at Wimbledon and reached the fourth round on 2 occasions; in 1992 and 1994.

Bates was also the first ever opponent of Andre Agassi in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament, in the first round of the U.S. Open in 1986, winning in four sets.

Since leaving the professional circuit in 1996, Jeremy has been the Head of Performance for the Lawn Tennis Association, and Director of Tennis at the Sutton Tennis Academy, in London.

After leaving the Sutton Tennis Academy in May 2010, Jeremy Bates has since been working as a broadcaster and commentator for the BBC, Eurosport and SKY. In March 2011 he also became the individual coach of current British Number 2 Anne Keothavong.

Jeremy’s considerable sporting experience, combined with his pleasing manner, informed approach and articulate delivery, make him a natural choice for personal appearances, motivational and after dinner speaking, as well as corporate days and promotions.
