About

Gavin was one of the outstanding Rugby Union players of his generation–he had 61 caps at full back for Scotland, 20 of them as Captain. As managing director of his own consultancy he handles sponsorship deals to raise awareness of companies by association with high profile sporting events or teams.

Gavin Hastings (Andrew Gavin Hastings, OBE) became the first player to captain a Scottish schoolboys side to win in England, and in 1985, he captained Cambridge University to victory in the Varsity Match.

Hastings has 61 caps at full back for Scotland, 20 of them as Captain. He captained the British Lions on the 1993 tour to New Zealand and has scored 700 points in test rugby. His debut for Scotland was against France in 1986. Gavin kicked 6 penalty goals to give Scotland victory by 18 points to 17. Gavin retired from rugby following the 1995 World Cup in South Africa and founded Hastings International.

He remains the all-time record points scorer for the British and Irish Lions (in test matches) with 66, and the all time record points scorer for Watsonians with 1203.

Hastings has also had a number of publications, including an autobiography called High Balls and Happy Hours, written with Clem Thomas, and published in 1997.

In 2011, Gavin became patron of Wobbly Williams and Funding Nero, two charities with the aim of raising awareness of Parkinson’s in young people and funding research into a cure.

In January 2012, to celebrate his 50th birthday and to raise funds for research into Parkinson’s cure he successfully climbed Kilimanjaro.

As managing director of his own consultancy he handles sponsorship deals to raise awareness of companies by association with high profile sporting events or teams. Most recently Gavin has been the driving force behind projects such as Scotland’s 2009 Ryder Cup bid.

Gavin appears regularly in the media and newspapers and his tailor-made presentations are filled with a mix of humorous and inspirational anecdotes.

His face is still a familiar addition to the television scene and his powerful motivational speeches are in demand at company seminars nationwide.
