A sizzling tribute to Olympic hero Jade Jones

A BUTCHER’S ‘golden’ sausages have become the ‘sizzling’ stars of the small screen.

Tony Lovatt, of Tony Lovatt and Son Butchers in Flint, has seen his sausages thrust into the spotlight after he created a special Jade Jones recipe.

The 65-year-old created the Jade Jones Olympic Gold sausage in honour of Flint’s Olympic taekwondo champion.

Last night Jade appeared on BBC’s The One Show, presented by Matt Baker and Alex Jones, and took a batch of the famous sausages with her.

Tony said: “The One Show rang me and asked if I could get some of the sausages down for the show, so I said I’d go and ask Jade and see if she would take them.

“I went to see her at her house and she said of course she would take them.

“It’s marvellous that everyone is talking about my sausages. The commentator kept mentioning them during Jade’s fights.”

The sausages are made with a blend of minced pork, rusk and the special ingredient – gold pork seasoning.

Once fried they develop a golden sheen.

Tony said: “The gold pork seasoning is a pinky colour, but when you fry them they actually turn gold.”

And the sausages, which are selling for £2.99 a pound, have been flying off the shelves.

Tony normally cooks about 120lb of sausages a week, but has been selling 60lb worth of Jade’s sausages every day.

“We are selling loads. I’ve had to make sausages every day this week.

“We are going to keep making them because people are coming from all over to buy them.

“We’ve got holidaymakers coming in from down the coast and one lady is taking some back to Kent.”

Tony, who has had the store on Chester Street for six years, was at Jade’s home on Tuesday to welcome her back.

“She had two huge bags of washing for her mum,” he joked.

Jade’s mum Jayne Ferguson has worked in Tony’s butchers for two years and is due to return to work today.

Tony added: “I think she’s looking forward to getting back to work now. She’ll be glad to get back to normal after all the excitement.”
