Richard Chambers Appointed Nite Watches Unite Ambassador

Olympic rower Richard Chambers has been appointed as a Nite Watches Unite Ambassador. The Irish rower, who won silver at the London 2012 Olympic Games, will wear the NITE HAWK sports watch as part of his new role.

Operations Manager at Nite Watches, Paul Conway, says; “We’re proud that Richard has agreed to become a Nite Ambassador. He’s shown incredible consistency in his career to date with World Championships, World Cup and Olympic medals to his name. We look forward to supporting him on the road to Rio and at World Cup and World Championship events.

“As a Nite Ambassador Richard will be the proud owner of a NITE HAWK sports watch, a lightweight watch with carbon fibre polycarbonate case – perfect for elite rowing training. It’s a tough watch and water resistant to 20 ATM.”

As a Nite Ambassador, Richard will join a community dedicated to excellence in sports and adventure pursuits.

Richard has always loved sports and the outdoors, ever since he was a kid growing up in Coleraine in Northern Ireland. As a youth he spent most of his time on the Mournes or the Antrim hills and soon his love of the outdoors became a passion. As a 15 year old Richard joined a team to hike Mont Blanc, a challenge which sadly ended in disappointment as they failed to climb Mont Maudit, the sun having left the snow on the mountain too soft to climb.

Richard began rowing aged 14 at the Coleraine Academical Institution in Northern Ireland and was coached by Bobby Platt. Not a natural runner, rugby player or cricketer, the 14-year old Richard found he took easily to the sport and says of his beginnings: “It’s such an addictive sport, and I absolutely loved it from the start.”

From junior competition Richard progressed to the seniors, and became a member of the British Rowing Team. He went on to win Gold at the 2007 and 2010 World Rowing Championships and has competed at the Beijing and London Olympics, winning a silver in this summer’s games in the lightweight men’s four.

The motto of London 2012 was ‘Inspire a generation’. This is something he will take away with him as he tries to encourage people to get more involved in sports and outdoors.

Aside from training, Richard now enjoys spending time with his young family, following Ulster Rugby and support several charities.
