Arsenal fan Mo Farrah gutted to see Van Persie move to Manchester United

The 29-year-old has described the news as “a dark day” for north London side after their former captain finalised his move to Old Trafford, signing a four-year deal.

The striker completed his £24 million move to Old Trafford on Friday after spending eight seasons at the north London side, with the Dutchman describing the switch as a “perfect match” for him when he was unveiled to the media after penning the four-year deal.

And talking just days after gold medal-winning performances in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the Olympics, Farah described the news as a “dark day” for Arsenal.

“I’m an athlete, so I can understand his decision. He’s moved to Man United in pursuit of trophies.

“As a runner I make my own destiny in my sport, but in team games it is more tricky.

“You have to pick the right team around you to help you to those trophies.

“I guess he felt it was going to be harder at Arsenal to win some silverware than at Man U.

“But speaking as a fan, I’m absolutely gutted Arsenal have lost him. He is pure footballing class.”

Van Persie’s exit has been expected for such he announced his intention to not renew his contract at the Emirates Stadium, citing a lack of ambition from the club’s hierarchy compared to his own aims.
